Runelite HD is a mod (made by a single player who is 117) that uses Old School RuneScape and gives it an HD upgrade. As early as, Jagex were issuing legal threats to mods such as this, in the hopes of RS gold proving copyright infringers. However, those appeared to have blown over as Jagex offered their support to this original Runelite.

But earlier this week, just hours before the upgraded Runelite HD was due for an official release 117 was approached by Jagex, demanding that work be stopped and that the release be deferred. However, this time the issue isn't due to copyright claims, but due to the fact that Jagex states that they're working on themselves an HD upgrade.

Although it sounds fair initially, there's a big issue. Runelite HD doesn't actually seem to violate any of Jagex's mod guidelines, and the company says new guidelines which clarify the fact that Runelite HD does actually break its policies will be made public this week.

Mod creator 117 states that they tried to compromise with Jagex by offering the option of removing their mod once the company had finished and cheap OSRS GP released their own work however, "they declined outright," almost as if they were securing the final word for a project that had consumed "approximately about 2000 hours of work over two years."
