Guests including the actors Robert Pattinson and Mia Goth, and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton wandered past Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker as they made their way to their seats on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking backstage before the show, Anderson, dressed in his signature faded Levi’s jeans and a navy cashmere sweater, described the collection as “another character study”, explaining that this time he set out to explore “the idea of a new aristocracy”, questioning “what it means today” and “what can it be?” The-41-year old designer said when it came to the social hierarchy he wanted to “ignore the aspect of money” and instead home in on “their eccentricity”. Dating back to 1909, Jacob’s Ladder was originally constructed from local jarrah wood by Joseph Huck and Sons. Reconstructed in the 1960’s using concrete and steel, the staircase is an iconic shortcut that takes you from the banks of Perth’s Swan River to Kings Park in a matter of minutes.

The gruelling ascent may seem daunting as you gaze up the narrow, steep steps zigzagging back and forth out of sight, but it is well worth the effort. At the top, you may think you’ve reached its namesake’s destination as you’re greeted by both panoramic views back across the river and the beautiful lush landscape of Kings Park.

Local fitness fanatics use the steps regularly for exercise, and it’s amazing to watch them complete multiple laps as you sit at the top on the conveniently placed bench catching your breath or sipping from the water fountain.
