When I was a child, I dreamt about various personal achievements, foreign cultures and lands, new exciting experiences, and knowledge. However, these dreams were abstract because childish imagination did not draw any distinct pictures of the future. Surely, I could not suppose that I will reach the land many Asian people dream about. I could not suppose that it would be as challenging as it was. Finally, I could not have an idea that I would enter the University of San Francisco, trying to join the Jesuit Catholic community. I believe that all that happened was a part of my destiny. This destiny has drawn a line of meetings, travels, studies, plans, all of which have led to the certain final point where I am meant to be. Currently, I see this final point in the Jesuit Catholic community.

Of course, I was born in another religious tradition and came to the United States as a person with a totally different background than people who live here from their birth. Nevertheless, I spent a year studying in the American catholic school, trying to become a suitable member for the community with another faith. After that, I felt that there was a mess in my head because I was lost between two opposite cultures. The more I thought, the less I understood how to help myself. I just left everything like it was, hoping that it would lead me to the right path somehow.

The right path found me. First of all, I joined school community service and helped people from the lower class, bringing them food and daily supply. I realized that this faith leads followers to provide assistance to local families in need. I started to follow the words of the priest and found out that his teachings and prayers gave me a feeling of peace and calmness. I was surprised but knew that I wanted to remain in such a faithful community in future.

That is how I came to the decision to enter this university and contribute to the development of Jesuit Catholic community here. I think I can be useful and carry out the mission of the Catholic tradition because I am aspiring to deepen into the communication with people who are experienced and apply the values of Jesuit community to my own life. I really like charity and volunteering activities because it helps to understand others' problems and stop concentrating on the own ego. I am majoring in communication, and I believe that going out of the comfort zone and leading conversations with different people are positive experiences for everybody. I would gladly join such activities in the University of San Francisco.

On the site, I have read that the university is “a diverse, socially responsible learning community”, and this statement inspires me. During my stay in the US, I have seen a lot of intolerance and heard certain prejudices from the side of Native Americans. It discouraged me because I used to believe that all people deserve good attitude to them. I hope that values of Jesuit Catholic lifestyle make people be interested in communication with others of all races, religions, social statuses, and genders. My parents have taught me to have respect for all humans, and I kept respecting them even after some Americans treated me not in a friendly way. The University of San Francisco may give me a perfect opportunity to tell other people that justice, respect, and understanding are extremely needed to live together in the society. If there will be interesting meetings, lectures or gatherings, organized by Jesuit community, I would be honoured to be there and contribute to the diversity. Successful professionals are not just those who graduate from the university and have knowledge in a particular field but those who are humane, have faith in God and people, know how to be kind, respectful, and tolerant to all humans. The mission of the university is to teach students how to be like this, and I highly appreciate it.
